How to properly set up a Hookah

I get e-mails time and time again about why is my Hookah at the Hookah Bars so bad, compared to yours that you set up at home? Believe it or not, there is a trick to getting better and thicker Hookah smoke, a longer lasting smoke session, and of course, a more flavorful smoke.

There might be a few things I write today that you will just be SO confused again, but don't worry... there will be more posts later on and you will begin to understand the logic behind them. If you're anxious, just go ahead and post a comment, and I will reply as soon as possible! I am here to help you all with what ever you need!

To start off, how I prepare my hookah ...

Step 1: Fill the Hookah base with ice about half way.... and the rest with water. You want to make sure that the stem of the hookah has the water line 1 inch 1/2 above the bottom of the stem. If you put too much water in your base, you will end up with a mouth full of water, and your Shisha (tobacco) ruined.

Step 2: Get your bowl out and start packing it with your choice of Shisha (tobacco). You want to make sure that when you are packing the Shisha, you aren't just cramming it in there. You have to slowly break it apart allowing the Shisha to breath. If you overpack the Shisha you will definitely notice a big difference. Your smoke will be very thick and harsh, making it hard for you to enjoy your smoke session. You want to make sure that your Shisha isn't over the top of the Shisha, just a tad bit packed below the top.

Step 3: Depending on what type of Coal, Shisha, and foil you use .... it's going to take some patience to perfect this step. I am using Starbuzz Shisha, quick light coals, and non heavy duty foil. So, with the following items in mind... I get some foil out, cut two pieces of equal size... and I put the first layer down, making sure it's a nice tight seal, and the same with the second piece. Don't forget to put the shiny part of the foil facing the Shisha (keeps heat in better). Once that is finished, I use a needle to pole the holes. Now there is a lot of controversy over this, but I have tested it time and time again, and I really think a lot of smaller holes is best ... just because it prevents the ash from the hookah coals to get in the Shisha. You will notice ... if you have big holes in your foil... and you don't ash often... you will see ash in the base when you clean your hookah.

Step 4: Make sure your stem, and hookah tray are put together. Place your hookah bowl on top of the bowl grommet...and make sure it's a nice tight fit. -- don't give up! you're almost ready to smoke!

Step 5: Plug in your hose

Step 6: Have your hookah coals lite and put them on the outer ring of your foil. It's important to rotate your coals .... to make sure your Shisha is evenly heated.

Step 7: Once your coals are in place, start smoking your Hookah. It will probably take a few hits in order for the tobacco to start burning, and once it starts... you're golden!

I hope these steps help, and once again if you have any questions... please don't hesitate to ask or post a comment below!

Basic Hookah Setup

Hey everyone. Today I will hopefully help you understand the basics behind the hookah, and how to set one up. The hookah can be very difficult to understand and master, but with training and dedication everyone can be a 'Hookah Pro'

The Hookah including all of it's parts

Let us start by identifying each part of the Hookah.

The Bowl: The bowl is used to hold the Shisha(Tobacco) in place.

Bowl Grommet: The bowl grommet is used to insure no smoke escapes from the stem, and allows for a tight seal.

Ashtray: Having an ashtray is a must... Holds coal when not in use, and allows for you to "Ash off" (Once the coal is almost done, it turns gray which means you need to Ash off the gray part in order to get a more thorough heat source) the remainder of the gray ASH.

Stem: The stem is where the smoke goes through

Valve: The valve is used to blow out stale smoke, and or clear thick smoke from the base.

Hose Grommet: Just like the bowl grommet, the hose grommet is used to ensure a tight fit from the hose, to the hose port.

Base Grommet: Once again, used to ensure a tight seal from the base to the stem.

Hose: Pretty simple, object used to smoke out of.

Base: The base is used to hold the water, which is needed to smoke Hookah.

I hope with these items being defined, you will learn what each part of the Hookah does, and hopefully allows for a better smoke. Stay tuned for product reviews, hookah tips and tricks!
